1- KHUDA KI BASTI
Aired on PTV in the year 1969, Khuda Ki Basti was a social issue-based drama, which was adapted from a novel by Shaukat Siddiqui. The drama saw Qazi Wajid in the lead role and introduced Behroz Sabzwari as a child actor. Such was the appeal of this drama that it was remade in the early 90s.
Based on a novel by A.R. Khatoon, Shama’s screenplay was written by Fatima Suraiyya Bajiya, with legendary director Qasim Jalali bringing this classic black and white drama to life. An instant hit, thanks to some amazing performances by Javed Sheikh, Qurban Jilani, Ishrat Hashmi and Rizwan Wasti.
3- AANGAN TERHA
The epitome of comedy and wit, owing to the penmanship of Anwar Maqsood, Aangan Terha remains an unforgettable drama to this day with impeccable performances by Salim Nasir, Shakeel, Arshad Mahmood, Durdana Butt and Bushra Ansari. On popular demand, the drama has been re-telecast numerous times since its first airing and was recently adapted as a stage play.
Those who watched Waris at the time when it was aired fondly remember how the streets would be deserted at the time the drama would be on air. Discussing the social impacts of feudalism, this drama was a masterpiece scripted by renowned poet and writer Amjad Islam Amjad with Ghazanfar Ali taking up the directorial duties. Adding to its appeal was the remarkable acting prowess shown by actors such as Abid Ali and Jamil Fakhri
5- MAN CHALAY KA SAUDA
Man Chalay Ka Sauda was adapted from a classic novel of the same name by distinguished Urdu author and scholar Ashfaq Ahmad. Rashid Dar directed this classic PTV drama, which starred veteran actors like Firdous Jamal, Khayyam Sarhadi and Qavi Khan.
Ankahi is one of the most famous Pakistani dramas that is known for its witty dialogues and remarkable acting from actors like Shehnaz Sheikh, Javed Sheikh, Shakeel, Saleem Nasir, Behroz Sabzwari and Jamshed Ansari. Broadcast in the year 1982, Ankahi was written by Haseena Moin and directed by Shoaib Mansoor.
Tanhaiyyan boasted of a star cast like Shehnaz Sheikh, Asif Raza Mir, Badar Khalil, Behroze Sabzwari, and a very young Marina Khan. Every actor in the drama serial did complete justice to the role and helped it become a spectacular hit. Needless to say, Haseena Moin’s script and Shahzad Khalil’s direction already had all the necessary ingredient to ensure its success.
8- DHOOP KINARAY
Dhoop Kinaray established Marina Khan and Rahat Kazmi as the best on-screen couple. The chemistry between them made it one of the most memorable dramas from PTV history. With Haseena Moin penning the script and Sahira Kazmi in the director’s chair, this drama was a cut above the rest with stellar performances by the cast that also included Sajid Hasan, Qazi Wajid, Badar Khalil, Arshad Mahmood, Azra Sherwani and Ishrat Hashmi.
Dhuwan was perhaps first action-drama in PTV’s history that garnered high ratings from the viewers. It was written by Aashir Azeem, who also played the lead role. Sajjad Ahmed directed the play to perfection, with Nabeel, Nazli Nasr, and Nayyar Ijaz as supporting cast.
Directed by Syed Shakir and written by Adeem Hashmi, Aaghosh beautifully captured the struggles and agony of a mother. It was an instant hit with Pakistani women.
