Pop start Madonna will be auctioning Cubist masterpiece on May 7 to support women’s education in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The painting called ‘Trois femmes a la table rouge’ is a masterpiece of famous French artist, Fernand Leger. It’s estimated worth is seven million dollars. The money raised from auction will go to the Ray of Light Foundation who will be using it to run education project in different parts of conservative Pakistan and Afghanistan. Madonna strongly feels that Pakistani women should have access to quality education.
Taliban and other militant groups operating in some parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan are making it hard for government to educate women in these areas. Number of incidents have been reported where female teachers as well as students have been shot by these militants. Despite the situation, many international organizations have been supporting Pakistan and Afghan government to build schools and promote education among women in these areas. Madonna has also announced her participation for the cause by selling her long time art possession. She has been keeping this painting since 1990.
Madonna’s inspiration came from the recent shooting in Khyber Agency, Pakistan, where militants shot down Shahnaz Nazli, a Pakistani school teacher. Madonna shared her picture on her official Facebook page and then announced that she will be selling the painting to support education in Pakistani women. She believes the society needs a Revolution of Tolerance.
