2013 was the year of new faces for Pakistani drama industry, a lot of newcomers appeared on our television screens for the first time and some of them were quite brilliant in what they did. Like last year, this year also, a lot of VJs and main line singers continued to transcend their boundaries and entered the field of Pakistani dramas that is an obvious proof of popularity of this medium. Let’s have a look at top 5 amazing debutants of the year 2013, a couple of them might had already appeared in few modelling projects, TV commercials or in supporting characters here and there but 2013 was the year that actually brought enough luck and main lead stardom for them.
Najam Sethi’s multi-talented daughter Meera Sethi entered tele-world with Six Sigma Entertainment’s Silvatien, that can rightly be said one of the successful plays of the year. Meera Sethi instantly attracted television audience with her spontaneous acting and lifelike bonding with her co-actors. Silvatien was a humorous-cum-tragic story of rivalry between two sisters, played by Amina Sheikh and Meera Sethi. Meera played the younger one, her round character underwent a lot of changes as the play progressed and she definitely delivered every mood of her character best. Right now, her play Muhabbat Subh Ka Sitara Hai is on air in which she is playing a significant role against Adeel Hussain.
VJ turned actor Sanam Jang made her TV debut as an actress with the most successful play of the year Dil-e-Muztar. We all had been observing her as a host in her live show on AAG TV and then on Utho Jaago Pakistan but little did we know she would blow our minds with her amazing acting skills too. Although in her first play she was performing against the renowned actor Imran Abbas but not for a moment she felt nervous or uncomfortable on screen. She outstandingly matched Imran’s acting and her chemistry with the male protagonist was something really worth-mentioning. Sanam Jang is now playing Romaisa in Hum TV’s Muhabbat Subh Ka Sitara Hai.
Maryam Tanveer Ali aka Maya Ali is also one of the successful VJs turned actors, though she stepped into the world of television as a talk show host for Sama TV but it is her dramas that earned her real fame. Back in 2012, Maya played a rather side character in the drama serial Durr-e-Shahwar, but later gave back to back hits as a leading drama artist in 2013 in shape of Aik Nayi Cinderalla, Aaun Zara, Khoya Khoya Chaand, Meri Zindagi Hai Tu and Ranjish Hi Sahi.
Osama Khalid Butt
Hottest Hunk of Pakistani tele-world Osman Khalid Butt aka “the cuter version” of Robert Pattinson actually started his career from theatre as an actor and director. His earlier fame came from his YouTube Vlog channel TheLivingPicture that was very popular among the youth. Osman made his television debut with Aik Nayi Cinderalla that truly provided him the much needed exposure. The leading couple, Maya Ali & Osama Khalid Butt won the hearts of the audience thus all two dramas they did together aced the TRP charts in 2013.
Sheheryar Munawwar Siddiqui
Hum Award for Best New Sensation Television winner Sheheryar Munawwar Siddiqui had made his television debut as the main lead in 2013 with Geo TV’s Aasmano Pe Likha which is the highest grossing play of the year according to sources. Sheheryar had performed in a couple of TV ventures earlier in 2012 but they really were side characters that didn’t provide him enough margin and space to showcase his own acting skills and talent. Other than his performance in Aasmano Pe Likha, another reason for which people adore him is his resemblance with the Bollywood’s eye-candy Hirithik Roshan. In addition to TV serials and commercials, Sheheryar is all ready to set fire on silver screen as well with his upcoming Pakistani movie Kambakht, that is said to be released in 2014.
