Construction is underway on a new Cherokee Casino in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The 92,000 square-foot casino will have 525 electronic games, restaurants, a grab-and-go cafe, live music venue, and full bar. The casino is part of a larger multi-use development project in the city, including an 18-hole golf course. The new casino will add two hundred and twenty jobs, and will benefit local residents and businesses.

In addition to a gaming floor that will include 525 electronic games, the Cherokee Casino Tahlequah will also feature a full-service bar, grab-and-go cafe, live music venue, and 33,000 square feet of convention space. Once open, the new Cherokee Casino will employ 220 people and will donate the current building to the Cherokee Immersion Charter School.

Their Tahlequah location features works by the likes of Bill Glass Jr., Demos Glass, Jane Osti, Eddie Morrison, Noe Grayson, and a number of other local artists. The company also works closely with the Cherokee Nation’s cultural arts department to ensure the artwork is appropriate for Cherokee culture.

The Cherokee Casino Tahlequah also hosts the Cherokee National Holiday Art Show, which is now in its 16th year. This annual event brings together artists from all federally recognized tribes in the region. The exhibition celebrates the art of these artists and their contributions to the Cherokee culture.

The casino pays homage to the Cherokee culture and history by featuring a prominent theme and unique art. You’ll find a unique display of artworks that honor the legend of the Cherokee warrior, the Tsiyu. You can also take in performances at the casino’s concert venue.

The casino also supports important social and cultural improvements in the region. Money generated from the casino’s activities funds the Museum of the Cherokee Indian, the Pioneer Motel, and other cultural sites. This money also funds important projects and initiatives. The Cherokee Preservation Foundation was founded with casino money and has contributed to the preservation of Cherokee culture.

The new constitution passed by the Cherokee Nation in 1999 included mechanisms for voters to remove officials. It also changed the structure of the tribal council and eliminated the need to obtain permission from the Department of Interior before amending the constitution. This constitutional amendment was ratified by the tribe in 2003.
